CHATELS SKI AREAS
Châtel was first established as a ski resort in 1947 with the installation of a single drag lift. From those humble beginnings the local ski area has now spread over a number of the surrounding mountains and is now served by a network of Gondola’s, chair lifts and drag lifts with a total of 130km of skiing covered by the local area lift pass.

Directly from the centre of the village you can take the gondola (250m from the chalet) and head directly up the mountain to Super Châtel, where there are a range of slopes from nursery and beginner areas up to black runs.

Or take the short bus ride from the church square (250m from the chalet) up the valley to access Châtel’s other linked ski areas of Linga and Pre-la joux. Once again these areas have the full complement of ski runs to suit all abilities with the advantage of some great off piste. Pre-la-Joux can be used as a portal to Avoriaz and beyond.

THE PORTES DU SOLEIL

For skiers who like to put some serious mileage under their skis Châtel does not disappoint. Being linked to the other French villages of La Chapelle d’Abondance, Abondance, Avoriaz, Morzine, Les Gets, St Jean D’Aulp and the Swiss villages of Morgins, Torgon, Champoussin, Les Crosets and Champery. To form one combined ski area known as the Portes du Soleil giving a total of 650km of pisted skiing and limitless off piste, all covered by one ‘Portes Du Soleil’ Ski pass.

SKI TOURING AND FUN PARKS

For those more adventurous skiers there are plenty of ski touring opportunities. For example a foray up to the summit of the Cornettes du Bise (2432m) is an awesome introduction into ski touring with magnificent views over Lake Leman (Geneva) to Lausanne followed by fields of untracked powder on the decent. Of course this requires specialist equipment and a guide, all of which can be booked locally.

If taking air and tricks are more of your thing there are not only fun parks in Châtel but also in Avoriaz, Les Crosets and Les Gets.

Within the chalet there are a variety of piste maps for both Châtel and the Portes du Soleil. To view maps of the village and the piste maps click on the resort drop down menu and then maps
